Reading, Reflection, Renewal
Why is it important to read the Bible?
The importance of reading the Bible can be understood through the process of reading, reflection, and renewal.
One of God’s greatest gifts to humanity is His Word. This Word, or the Bible, is how God speaks and reveals Himself to us. It is in this book that God reveals His love to His people, and His wonderful act of salvation through Christ. This word is deep, and rich, and beautiful in meaning and in writing, yet it can sometimes be difficult to fully understand without some help.
For this reason, the Burnaby Reading Room provides resources written by people who have studied the Bible thoroughly. We also give the opportunity to read the Bible and speak about it with others who are there to explain, help, and support you. Currently, a trained theologian and ordained minister, the Rev. Dr. Karlo Janssen, is present in the room most Wednesday afternoons.
Therefore we invite you to take your time to read and reflect.
The Reading Room is a place where you can sit and meditate, without being distracted by the busyness of daily life.
Take a seat, grab a coffee or tea, and sit there as long as you need. And if you need more time, come again another day, read some more, and reflect.
‘Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.’ Romans 12:2
The way God works faith in us is through the Word of God. When we read the Bible and reflect on what we read, God opens our hearts for His revelation so that we may believe what God speaks to us in the Bible.
The result of this faith is that we are going to be renewed. We will not continue to live as we did before, but our lives are going to be changed. The more we are convinced that God’s Word is good, the more we are also going to live according to it. This is a beautiful and powerful transformation, and only one that true faith can create.
